Short answer
A cleaning service saves you the time and the handling of chemicals, and suits very large or hard-to-reach glass. A DIY kit suits a normal shower screen if you can set aside a few hours. The deciding question is sealing: removal alone leaves glass that still holds water, so the marks return within weeks. Whichever you choose, make sure the glass is sealed afterwards.
If your shower glass has clouded over, there are two ways to deal with it: book a cleaning service, or do it yourself with a kit. We make a kit, so read this knowing that. We have tried to make it fair, because the right answer genuinely depends on your glass and your situation.
What a cleaning service usually does
Most bathroom and glass cleaning services in NCR offer a deep clean, and many include hard water stain removal. The quality varies a lot. The single most important question is whether they only remove the marks, or also seal the glass afterwards. Removal alone leaves clean glass that still holds water, and the marks start coming back within weeks. The reason is in why shower glass turns white.
Side by side
| Cleaning service | DIY kit | |
|---|---|---|
| Your time | Almost none; someone comes to you | A few hours, one panel at a time |
| Skill needed | None from you | Following the steps in order, carefully |
| Handling chemicals | Their job | Yours: gloves, ventilation, no mixing |
| Does the glass get sealed? | Ask: many only clean | Yes, sealing is the last step |
| What you pay for | Each visit | The kit, with a spare cleaner for upkeep |
| When it happens | When they have a slot | Whenever suits you |
When a service is the better choice
- Very large areas of glass, or glass you cannot reach safely.
- You would rather not handle strong chemicals yourself, or cannot ventilate the room well.
- You have no time, and paying someone is simply worth it.
- The glass is etched and needs professional polishing, which no kit or cleaner can do: see etched shower glass.
When a kit is the better choice
- You want the glass sealed, not just cleaned, so the marks stop coming back.
- You want to do it on your own schedule, without someone in your home.
- You have a normal-sized shower screen, mirror or partition and can set aside a few hours.
Five questions to ask any service
- Do you remove the mineral layer, or only clean the surface?
- Do you seal the glass afterwards? With what, and how long does it last?
- How do you protect marble, grout and metal fittings from the chemicals?
- What happens if marks are still visible afterwards?
- If part of the glass is etched, will you tell me before you start?
A good service will answer all five without hesitation.
If you go the DIY route
The Infinite Coatz kit is built around the part services often skip: clean, strip, scrub, then seal, finishing with a 9H nano coating that lasts up to two years depending on your water and use. Everything is in the box: five bottles used in order, two microfibre cloths and two applicator pads. Before you start, read how to keep it clean afterwards, and use it safely: window open, gloves on, never mixed with other cleaners.
