Using the kit safely

The kit uses strong chemicals to do a job ordinary sprays cannot. Treat them with respect and it is straightforward.

The label on each bottle comes first. This page is general safe-use guidance for the kit. If anything here differs from a bottle's own label, follow the label.

Before you start

  • Ventilate. Open a window or door and run the exhaust fan. The kit is meant to be used in a well ventilated space.
  • Wear gloves, chemical-resistant ones such as nitrile, and ideally eye protection. The contents are strong chemical agents formulated for professional use: avoid contact with eyes and skin.
  • Keep children and pets out of the room while you work, and keep the bottles out of their reach at all times.
  • Protect what is around the glass. Cover marble and other natural stone, and keep the products off metal fittings and rubber seals.
  • Keep away from flames and direct sunlight.

While you work

  • Use the bottles in order, one step at a time and one panel at a time.
  • Never mix products, from the kit or from anywhere else. Above all, never use an acid-based cleaner together with bleach or a bleach-based cleaner: the combination releases chlorine gas.
  • If you cleaned the glass with another product first, rinse it off with water before you start.
  • Close each bottle as soon as you have finished with it.
  • Stop and get fresh air if you feel light-headed, or if your eyes or throat start to sting.

If something goes wrong

What happenedWhat to do
In the eyesRinse straight away with plenty of clean running water for at least 15 minutes, holding the eyelids open. Remove contact lenses if that is easy. Get medical advice.
On the skinRinse with plenty of water and take off splashed clothing. Get medical advice if irritation continues.
Breathed inMove to fresh air. Get medical advice if you feel unwell.

In an emergency, call 112 or go to the nearest hospital, and take the bottle or its label with you.

Storage

  • Keep the bottles tightly closed, upright and in their original packaging.
  • Store them somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sunlight and flames.
  • Keep them out of reach of children, and never pour them into food or drink containers.
