Short answer
Water marks on partitions, railings and windows are the same minerals that cloud shower glass, left behind when water dries: from cleaning water, splashes, hoses or rain. Clean chalky marks with a mild acid, do the final wipe with filtered or RO water so you do not leave new spots, and dry the glass completely. A water-repellent coating helps it stay clear for longer.
Shower screens get the attention, but any glass that gets wet and dries in place will spot: kitchen and office partitions near a basin, balcony railings, windows, glass tabletops. The cause is the same everywhere. Water dries; minerals stay.
Where the marks come from
- Cleaning water. Wiping glass with tap water and letting it dry leaves a thin film of minerals. In hard-water areas, the cleaning itself can be what causes the marks.
- Splashes. Partitions near a wash basin, kitchen sink or tea station catch droplets all day.
- Rain and dust. On balconies, rain mixes with dust and dries in spots and streaks.
- Hoses. Washing a balcony or a car with borewell water spots any glass it splashes.
How to clean them without streaks
- Dust first. Dry-wipe or rinse off grit so you are not dragging it across the glass.
- Treat chalky marks with a mild acid: equal parts white vinegar and water, left for a few minutes. Protect any stone, wood or metal around the glass.
- Wipe with a clean microfibre cloth.
- Do the final wipe with filtered or RO water, not tap water. Water with very little dissolved in it has almost nothing to leave behind when it dries.
- Dry completely with a second, dry microfibre cloth or a squeegee.
On tinted, frosted or film-covered glass, and on any glass with a factory coating, check with the installer before using an acid or a coating.
A simple routine
| Where | How often | What helps most |
|---|---|---|
| Kitchen and basin partitions | Wipe splashes daily, clean weekly | A final wipe with filtered water |
| Office partitions and glass doors | Weekly | A squeegee for whoever cleans, not only a cloth |
| Balcony railings | After dusty spells and rain | Rinsing the dust off before wiping |
| Windows | Monthly | Cleaning in the shade, so sun does not dry the cleaner into streaks |
Keeping them clear for longer
The marks come back for the same reason as on shower glass: bare glass holds water in a thin film. A water-repellent coating makes water bead and run off instead, so far less is left to dry in place. There is more on that in nano coating vs glass cleaner.
The Infinite Coatz kit is not only for showers: mirrors, glass partitions, balcony railings and windows all take the same treatment. The one exception is glass that already has a factory coating.
